Over the years sewer lines can be damaged by tree roots, shifting soil, mineral erosion, etc. Thanks to a new technology called trenchless sewer line relining, repairs are now much less disruptive.
Why Trenchless Repair?
Prior to the advent of trenchless sewer line repair technology, repairs had to be made by exhuming sewer lines. Beautifully decorated landscapes often had to be uprooted to access the line, and for some homes it also meant tearing up a portion of the garage or driveway.
New no-dig sewer line repair technologies appeared around 2001, allowing for pipe repair without creating craters in the yard. Several versions of trenchless repairs are available, with ‘pipe bursting’ emerging as the one most repair companies use.
New polyurethane pipe in soft form is pulled through existing damaged pipe using high-pressure hydraulic cable and machinery, then expanded and hardened into a tough new pipeline. Only two small access holes must be dug – one at each end of the line.
- Very little digging
- Poly-pipe is corrosion-resistant with a 50 year life expectancy
- In some cases may be used to replace underground gasoline lines
- Adheres to existing pipe structure
